Gender Awareness Seminar “Evaluation and Gender”
30 November 2020 at 15:30
Being a successful scientist is very often dependent on two kinds of assessment: the evaluation of your supervisors, the editors of peer-reviewed journals or funding committees on the one hand, and on your self-evaluation on the other. Both aspects are also strongly related to Gender concepts. We know that in some parts of our scientific world women still must fulfill higher expectations for positive evaluation than men. And we also observe that some women tend to withhold themselves even if they so harm their own academic career because they underestimate their own scientific impact.
In this seminar we will discuss the interplay of gender and evaluation in academia, we will question what kinds of grading system help to undermine gender discrimination and what everyone can do to counter it.
The results of this session will be presented at the annual retreat on 14 December in addition to some general ideas how to withstand gender stereotyping in evaluation and grading.
The seminar is open to all researchers (PhD candidates and Postdoc) of the integrated-Research Training Group “Particle Science and Technology”.
